2016 Performance Summary

aplus's picture

The past year was mostly in an uptrend but we had two rough spots where the market pulled back roughly 10% in January and June. The S&P gained 10% and the Dow gained 13.4% in 2016, and once again our trades handily beat the market throughout the year.

There were a total of 37 individual positions throughout the year, across 23 trades that were executed for an average of 2 trades per month. These trades produced the following returns calculated in various forms:

Gross Realized 2016 Gain: 1,344%
Net Realized 2016 Gain: 574%
Net $ Return if you executed 1 contract on each trade: $3,436

The trades are detailed below and they cross reference with each of our posts dates and execution prices. If you followed our trades and traded one contract for everything we did, you would have made $3,436! That's an impressive feat, and one that didn't require much leverage, margin or a million dollar portfolio to achieve.

We have three open trades right now that we're still carrying:
- Synthetic long on Facebook: http://aplustrades.com/articles/2016/06/24/long-term-trade-facebook
- Short Put on Deckers: http://aplustrades.com/articles/2017/01/09/option-trade-deckers-outdoor-...
- Synthetic long on Netflix: http://aplustrades.com/articles/2017/01/18/netflix-option-trade

We should have more trades in 2017 than we did in 2016 since we see more opportunity right now than we did in Jan-Feb of 2016. January started with a decline in 2016, and it was tough to gauge a directional move in many stocks that we were watching. So far in 2017, the market has been holding up extremely well, while many sectors are breaking down hard, such as retail.

We hope this has been a helpful resource for aspiring option traders, and for those looking to generate some extra yield in their portfolios.
